Ceisteanna (485)

James Browne

Ceist:

485. Deputy James Browne asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the way in which his Department and Fáilte Ireland support economically deprived towns that receive economic boosts from tourism, specifically in a town (details supplied) in County Wexford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department's role in relation to tourism lies primarily in the area of developing national tourism policy, while the tourism agencies have operational responsibility for the implementation of this policy.

In this regard, Fáilte Ireland has operational responsibility to support and develop tourism nationally and regionally - including in county Wexford - and for domestic tourism marketing.

Accordingly I have referred the Deputy's question to the agency for direct reply.  I ask him to contact my private office if he has not received a reply within ten working days.

A referred reply was forwarded to the Deputy under Standing Order 42A.
