Niamh Smyth

Ceist:

240. Deputy Niamh Smyth asked the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government the reason payment for occupational therapist assessments recommendations and reports in relation to housing adaptation grants for county councils is now restricted to €200 per case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. There has been no change in the amount that an applicant under the Housing Adaptation Grants schemes for Older People and People with a Disability can be refunded for engaging the services of a private occupational therapist.

I understand that both HSE and private occupational therapists are routinely engaged by local authorities to assess the needs of applicants for grants under the grant schemes. When an applicant engages a private occupational therapist, the cost can be refunded to them as part of the total grant paid, subject to a limit of €200 per assessment.
