Deputy Pat Buckley asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the services available to assist young adults with a disability such as a person (details supplied) who had been availing of school transport accessing their continuing education as before; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraDisability Allowance is a weekly allowance paid to people with a specified disability who are aged 16 or over and under the age of 66. This disability must be expected to last for at least one year and the allowance is subject to a medical examination, a means test and habitual residency conditions.
All DA recipients are eligible for the Free Travel Pass, which entitles the bearer to free travel on public transport in Ireland (and certain private services). A companion pass may also be applied for if it is required. The Free Travel Pass is also available to those in receipt of Carer’s Allowance recipients. The first and second named in the above question are in receipt of this benefit.
