629. Deputy Brendan Griffin asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the amount paid to An Post per transaction to administer social welfare payments; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [53091/18]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Department makes approximately 79 million social welfare payments per annum of which nearly 42% are via the post office network. Payment via the post office network are governed by the Department’s contract with An Post. This contract sets out the fee rate payable to the company for providing this service to the Department. This is a commercial contract and details of the price structure fee rate is therefore not available for public release.
In 2017, there were over 33 million welfare payments made in post offices which resulted in a total fee due to An Post of just over €51.5 million.
