1050. Deputy Robert Troy asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection if both a carer's allowance payment and a domiciliary care allowance will be awarded to a person (details supplied) following an appeal. [54144/18]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Social Welfare Appeals Office has advised me that the carer's allowance appeal by the person concerned was registered in that office on 6 July 2018 and the domiciliary care allowance appeal was registered on 14 June 2018. It is a statutory requirement of the appeals process that the relevant papers and comments by or on behalf of the Deciding Officer on the grounds of appeal be sought from the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection. The carer's allowance papers were received in the Social Welfare Appeals Office on 26 October 2018 and the domiciliary care allowance papers were received on 19 November 2018. The cases have been referred together to an Appeals Officer who will make a summary decision on the appeal based on documentary evidence presented or, if required, hold an oral hearing.
The Social Welfare Appeals Office functions independently of the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection and of the Department and is responsible for determining appeals against decisions in relation to social welfare entitlements.
