175. Deputy Micheál Martin asked the Minister for Health the number of staff working in the procurement area for major State infrastructure projects in his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4580/19]
Amharc ar fhreagraCurrently the Department of Health operates a devolved procurement function whereby individual Units are responsible for carrying out their own procurement exercises. Due to this arrangement it would not be feasible to accurately calculate the number of staff working throughout my Department in the procurement area. However staff involved in procurement in the Department of Health must comply with all applicable EU and national procurement law and guidelines.
As the HSE is responsible for the delivery of major health care infrastructure projects, the Executive has been requested to reply directly to the Deputy in relation to the number of staff working in the procurement area for these projects.
