232. Deputy Catherine Martin asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport his plans to legislate or regulate for the use of cameras by local authorities, An Garda Síochána or others in enforcing traffic regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7504/19]
Amharc ar fhreagraSection 31 of the Road Traffic Act 2004 empowers road authorities, with the consent of the Garda Commissioner or at his or her request, to provide and maintain any equipment or structure which the authority consider desirable for the detection of offence under the Road Traffic Acts. Furthermore, section 81 of the Act of 2010 provides that evidence from the use of electronic or other apparatus, including cameras, may be used, in prosecutions, as prima facia proof of a constituent of an offence under sections 47, 52, 53, 55, 91, 93 or 94 of the Road Traffic Act 1961, section 35 of the Road Traffic Act 1994 or section 38 of the Railway Safety Act 2005.
