The Local Improvement Scheme, or LIS, is a programme for improvement works on small private or non-public roads in rural areas. The scheme is funded by my Department and is administered through the Local Authorities.

On 7 February last, I announced a sum of €10 million for this year's round of LIS.  The allocations for each county were published on my Department's website, www.drcd.gov.ie.

A communication was issued to relevant  Local Authorities on 1st March, confirming their indicative allocations, and providing them with the terms and conditions applicable to the scheme this year.

Since I reintroduced the scheme in September 2017, €48 million has been allocated for LIS roads around the country and improvement works have been carried out on more than 1,100 roads to date.  The 2019 allocation will further increase the number of roads benefitting under the scheme.
