235. Deputy Fiona O'Loughlin asked the Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation her plans to publish a task force on digital piracy. [12146/19]
Amharc ar fhreagraMy Department is responsible for ensuring that Ireland has a robust legal framework to allow for the protection of intellectual property rights. Protection of such rights from piracy, whether digital or otherwise, is undertaken by rightsholders pursuing civil proceedings. A number of successful cases have been taken in recent years, which have included the establishment of a formal graduated response system to tackle infringements based on a court ruling in 2015.
As enforcement falls across a number of Departments and agencies such as Customs and an Garda Siochana I have no plans to establish a task force on digital piracy.
The Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment holds responsibility for the Government's Digital Strategy.
