Deputy Kate O'Connell asked the Minister for Health if an audit of children or adults in long-term residential care has been carried out; the costs associated with the care and stay of such persons during their lives from entry to when they leave; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Deputy Kate O'Connell asked the Minister for Health the cost of long-term residential care for a person with special needs under the care of the State and-or privately in tabular form; the person or body who provides such long-term residential care in terms of governance, ethos and management; if a list of the organisations will be provided; the details in relation to inheritance of assets by the organisations should a service user die while in care; and if same will be provided. The Government is committed to providing services and supports for people with disabilities which will empower them to live independent lives, provide greater independence in accessing the services they choose, and enhance their ability to tailor the supports required to meet their needs and plan their lives.
This commitment is outlined in the Programme for Partnership Government, which is guided by two principles: equality of opportunity and improving the quality of life for people with disabilities.
As the Deputy's questions relate to service matters, I have arranged for the questions to be referred to the Health Service Executive (HSE) for direct reply to the Deputy.
