443. Deputy Mary Lou McDonald asked the Minister for Justice and Equality the number of crimes per annum, by type of offence, for each of the years from 2009 to 2018 and to date in 2019 in Dublin metropolitan region north and Dublin metropolitan region north central by division, district and sub-district, in tabular form. Amharc ar fhreagraAs the Deputy will be aware, the Central Statistics Office (CSO), as the national statistical agency, is responsible for the compilation and publication of recorded crime statistics. To be of assistance, I have requested the CSO to forward the available statistics directly to the Deputy.

Deputy Michael Lowry asked the Minister for Justice and Equality his plans to review the maximum age limit of 35 years of age for normal entry into An Garda Síochána in order to maximise recruitment opportunities and diversity in view of the recently published Report on the Future of Policing in Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraAs the Deputy will be aware, recruitment to An Garda Síochána is governed by the Garda Síochána (Admissions and Appointments) Regulations 2013 which provide that the age at which a person may apply to join An Garda Síochána as a full time member is not more than 35 years.
On 18 December 2018, the Government endorsed the report of the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland (CoFPI) and agreed to accept all of its 157 key recommendations, including those related to Garda workforce planning and modernisation. One of the key issues highlighted in the report was that An Garda Síochána should reflect the diversity of Irish society and should therefore develop recruitment strategies to achieve a more diverse intake. In this regard, it recommended that age limits for recruitment should be removed.
I can inform the Deputy that the question of the appropriate age for recruitment to An Garda Síochána will be considered as part of my Department's review of entry to An Garda Síochána.

Deputy Mary Lou McDonald asked the Minister for Justice and Equality the number and type of Garda vehicles attached to Dublin metropolitan region north and Dublin metropolitan region north central in each of the years from 2009 to 2018 and to date in 2019, by division, district and subdistrict, in tabular form. Amharc ar fhreagraThe Deputy will be aware that there has been an unprecedented level of investment in Garda resources across the State in recent years.
A total of €46 million has been provided by the Government for investment in the Garda fleet between 2016 and 2021, in addition to the investment of almost €30 million in the period 2013 to 2015. This continuing investment is intended to ensure that An Garda Síochána has a modern, effective and fit-for-purpose fleet and that Gardaí can be mobile, visible and responsive on the roads and in the community to prevent and tackle crime.
As the Deputy will appreciate, in accordance with Section 26 of the Garda Síochána Act 2005 as amended, the Garda Commissioner is responsible for managing and controlling the administration and business of An Garda Síochána. Furthermore, the allocation of Garda resources is a matter for the Commissioner, in light of his identified operational demands. This includes responsibility for the allocation of Garda vehicles among the various Garda divisions. As Minister, I have no direct role in that matter. I understand however, that Garda management keeps the distribution of resources under continual review in the context of crime trends and policing priorities so as to ensure their optimum use.
I am informed by the Garda authorities that the following tables set out the number and type of Garda vehicles attached to Dublin Metropolitan Region North Division and Dublin Metropolitan Region North Central Division by District for the years 2011 - 2019. The number and type of Garda vehicles in these Districts in 2029 and 2010 are available to Divisional level only and those details are included for the Deputy's information.

462. Deputy Mary Lou McDonald asked the Minister for Justice and Equality the number of civilian staff attached to Dublin metropolitan region north and Dublin metropolitan region north central in each of the years from 2009 to 2018 and to date in 2019, by division, district and sub-district, in tabular form. More generally, the Deputy will be aware, the Government's vision is for a Garda workforce of 21,000 personnel by 2021 to include 15,000 Garda members and 4,000 Garda Staff. The projected 4,000 Garda Staff represents a medium-term target of 20% of the Garda full-time workforce comprised of civilians.
The continued growth of civilianisation within An Garda Síochána is supported by the Report of the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland. This Report states that civilianisation should be seen as part of the strategic vision for the organisation, building a stronger skill mix and delivering a better service to the public.
