55. Deputy Thomas P. Broughan asked the Minister for Finance if the possible introduction of a tax on agricultural greenhouse gas emissions, as recommended by the Citizens' Assembly, is being examined; the progress on such examinations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14601/19]
Amharc ar fhreagraDecisions on tax policy take place every year as part of the annual budgetary process. The Environmental Taxes paper prepared annually for the Tax Strategy Group contains analysis on the tax policy options and this helps inform subsequent budget decisions.
As the Deputy will be aware, the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action was established in 2018 to consider the third report and recommendations of the Citizens’ Assembly regarding measures to tackle climate change. The Committee is due to report soon and their recommendations will be considered as part of the budgetary process.
