1011. Deputy Thomas Pringle asked the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht her plans to announce elections for the board of Údarás na Gaeltachta; when this will be carried out; if not, the reason therefor; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23741/19]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Deputy will be aware that the current board of Údarás na Gaeltachta was appointed on 16 January 2018 for a 5-year period to 15 January 2023 in accordance with the relevant provisions of Acht na Gaeltachta 2012. This is the second board to be appointed under the revised arrangements currently being applied, in accordance with the Act and in line with best practice.
Given the effectiveness and efficiency of the current system of appointments which was the subject of careful consideration by my Department prior to the enactment of the Gaeltacht Act in 2012, I see no good reason to reintroduce an expensive election process.
