As the Deputy will appreciate, it is the Garda Commissioner who is responsible for managing An Garda Síochána including personnel matters. I have asked the Garda Commissioner for the information requested and I will write directly to the Deputy when I receive it.

The following deferred reply was received under Standing Order 42A
I refer to Parliamentary Question No. 357 for answer on Tuesday, 2 July 2019 the text of which was as follows: "To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality if a competition for new Garda collision forensic investigators will be held in quarter 3 of 2019; and if he will make a statement on the matter.”
At the time I responded that I would request the information sought by the Deputy from the Garda Commissioner and that I would write directly to him on receipt of same.
As the Deputy will appreciate, it is the Garda Commissioner who is responsible for managing An Garda Síochána including personnel matters.
I am advised by the Commissioner that a Forensic Collision Investigator competition was held in 2018 and a panel is still in place until 31 December 2019.
I am further advised by the Commissioner that a review is currently being carried out in respect of the number and location of Forensic Collision Investigators. No decision in respect of the holding of a new competition for Forensic Collision Investigators will be made until the review has been completed.
I hope that this information is of assistance.
