Ceisteanna (2019)

Jonathan O'Brien

Ceist:

2019. Deputy Jonathan O'Brien asked the Minister for Health the number of persons working in his Department on a wage of less than €12.30 per hour; the number disaggregated by professional role such as nurses; and the estimated cost of increasing salaries of those on a wage of less than €12.30 per hour to a wage of €12.30 per hour. The staff of my Department are on centrally negotiated civil service pay scales. There are a number of Clerical Officers and Service Officers on the lower end of the pay scale for those grades who are on salaries of less than €12.30 per hour but as they progress over time on the Clerical Officer and Service Officer pay scales, their salaries will exceed €12.30 per hour.

As the Deputy refers to grades such as nurses, I am interpreting the Deputy's question as also relating to employees of the HSE and employees in agencies funded via Section 38 of the Health Act, 2004. As such, I have asked the HSE to respond directly to the Deputy on the matter raised.
