2298. Deputy David Cullinane asked the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment the strategies and policies in place to address light pollution; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [34508/19]
Amharc ar fhreagraThere is currently no legislation in Ireland dealing specifically with environmental light pollution, and my Department has no role in this regard. I am advised that the amount of light that might emanate from a proposed development in terms of potential impacts on adjoining properties and protecting their residential amenity is considered in assessing individual planning applications on a case by case basis. However there is no specific national strategy in place in relation to 'light pollution' under planning or environmental legislation.
