Ceisteanna (1805)

Ceist:

1805. Deputy Stephen Donnelly asked the Minister for Health if a report on the work of the performance management unit in the HSE will be provided; the number of whole-time equivalent staff employed within it; the number of reports and reviews it has undertaken; and the recommendations made by it to improve performance# [34085/19]

Hospital Consultant Contracts

Ceisteanna (1806)

Stephen Donnelly

Ceist:

1806. Deputy Stephen Donnelly asked the Minister for Health when it is planned to negotiate a new consultant contract. [34086/19]

Amharc ar fhreagra

Freagraí scríofa

Currently most consultants hold contracts that allow them engage in on-site private practice, with a smaller proportion holding contracts that also allow them engage in off-site private practice. The Sláintecare Report proposed the phased elimination of private care from the public system. Given the complexities involved, it also proposed an independent impact analysis of the proposal.

Engagement with the consultants representative bodies in relation to a new contract would follow on from the Government's consideration of the Report of the Independent Review Group established to examine private activity in public hospitals (the De Buitléir Report) pursuant to the Sláintecare recommendation. I intend to publish this Report in the coming weeks. Consideration of the Report is ongoing and the Government has not yet made any decision relating to the recommendations in the Report.

Healthcare Professionals

Ceisteanna (1807)

Stephen Donnelly

Ceist:

1807. Deputy Stephen Donnelly asked the Minister for Health the reviews of the roles and responsibilities of health professionals providing extended scope of practice that have been undertaken since 2016. [34087/19]

Amharc ar fhreagra

Freagraí scríofa

In 2016, the Programme for Partnership Government set out its commitments in relation to the roles and responsibilities of various healthcare professionals working in our hospitals. In particular, the commitment states that this includes a 'further transfer of tasks between doctors and nurses, a greater role and extended scope of practice, including the authority to order and report on scans, for radiographers and radiation therapists'.

In 2016, an agreement on the transfer of tasks was reached between health service management, the IMO, INMO and SIPTU to enable nursing/midwifery staff to take on four key tasks from NCHDs. In 2019, with regard to nurses, agreement was reached on a new Enhanced Nurse / Midwife Practice role.

I can also advise that a radiographer review group has been examining proposals in relation to an extended scope of practice for radiographers.

Question No. 1808 answered with Question No. 1714.
