616. Deputy Michael Healy-Rae asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the status of an application by a person (details supplied); and if she will make a statement on the matter. [43133/19]

The living alone allowance is an additional payment of €9 per week made to people aged 66 years or over who are in receipt of certain social welfare payments and who live alone.  It is only available to people who are under 66 years of age,  if they are in receipt of disability allowance, invalidity pension, incapacity supplement or blind pension.

As the person concerned is under age 66 and not in receipt of a qualifying payment, they are not eligible for living alone allowance.

I hope this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
