Thomas Pringle

Ceist:

365. Deputy Thomas Pringle asked the Minister for Justice and Equality the number of persons who have received civil legal aid from the Legal Aid Board since 1 October 2018 in order to proceed with claims of discrimination under equality legislation against licensed premises; the number of cases that were successful; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The provision of civil legal aid in the State is delivered by the Legal Aid Board pursuant to the Civil Legal Aid Act 1995 and the Civil Legal Aid Regulations 1996 to 2017.

I have had enquiries made with the Legal Aid Board on behalf of the Deputy. They have informed me that a small number of such applications for legal services were received during the time period in question but were not pursued by the applicants and the files were subsequently closed.

It follows therefore that, from 1 October, 2018 to 4 November, 2019 no persons received civil legal aid from the Legal Aid Board in order to proceed with claims of discrimination under equality legislation against licensed premises.
