8. Deputy Catherine Murphy asked the Taoiseach and Minister for Defence if a new recruitment campaign for the Air Corps fire service will commence before end of quarter 2 of 2020; and if not, the date on which it will commence. [3185/20]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe military authorities have advised that the Defence Forces do not recruit directly into the Air Corps Fire Service.
Aviation fire-fighting is a specialist area and all members of the Air Corps Crash Rescue Service must successfully pass the basic aviation firefighting course before they serve as active members of the Air Corps Crash Rescue service.
The last Aviation Fire Fighters course was run in Q2 of 2019 and the organisation of future courses will be determined by the military authorities, in line with requirements.
