Ceisteanna (757)

Louise O'Reilly

Ceist:

757. Deputy Louise O'Reilly asked the Minister for Health the number of general practitioners who started on a general practitioner training scheme in 2019; the number of places that can be catered for on the training scheme; if the number of training places will be increased in 2020; and if so, the number to which. 192 medical graduates entered the GP training programme in 2019. The number entering the programme has increased steadily in recent years from 120 in 2009. Capacity for training places will be further increased this year with 217 places made available.

It is intended that the transfer of responsibility for training General Practitioners from the HSE to the Irish College of General Practitioners will take place in 2020, pending the resolution of certain outstanding issues, and that this will allow for a further expansion in the number of training places in future years.
