Deputy Sorca Clarke asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the position regarding the reopening of the Killucan, County Westmeath train station; if a decision has been made as to when the station will reopen; and the engagement he has had with a group (details supplied) since becoming Minister. As Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding of public transport. The operation, maintenance and renewal of the rail network and stations on the network including the former station referred to, is a matter for Iarnród Éireann in the first instance. I am not aware of any decision in relation to the reopening of the station at Killucan.
In view of Iarnród Éireann's responsibility in this matter, I have referred the Deputy's question to the company for direct reply. Please contact my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 working days.
