Deputy Róisín Shortall asked the Minister for Health the reason a data protection impact assessment was not carried out prior to the public consultation on recommendations for the implementation of a national electronic patient summary here; and if he will make a statement on the matter. In accordance with GDPR and HIQA recommendations, a data protection impact assessment must be conducted when the implementation of a national electronic patient summary commences. However, this project has not yet been initiated by the HSE. Further engagement with the public and stakeholders will also be required upon commencement.
