582. Deputy Violet-Anne Wynne asked the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage if a housing unit that has been assigned as a Traveller specific unit can be reallocated to the general housing stock if required. [32491/20]
Amharc ar fhreagraIn accordance with the Housing (Traveller Accommodation) Act 1998, housing authorities have statutory responsibility for the assessment of the accommodation needs of Travellers and the preparation, adoption and implementation of multi-annual Traveller Accommodation Programmes in their areas. My Department’s role is to ensure that there are adequate structures and supports in place to assist the authorities in providing such accommodation, including a national framework of policy, legislation and funding.
In cases where a housing unit is purchased with funding from my Department's Traveller-specific accommodation capital budget, local authorities are requested to confirm that the housing unit will be kept as part of Traveller accommodation stock.
