Deputy Steven Matthews asked the Minister for Transport if his attention has been drawn to the campaign led by a charity (details supplied) that proposes a return of the quiet carriages initiative on Irish Rail that had been in place previously; the basis for the phasing out of this programme in 2018; if he will consider recommencing such an initiative; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As the Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport. However, I am not involved in the day-to-day operations of public transport.The issues raised are an operational matter for Iarnród Éireann and I have forwarded the Deputy's question to the company for direct reply.Please advise my private office if you do not receive a response within ten working days.
