Deputy Violet-Anne Wynne asked the Minister for Rural and Community Development if the capital scheme for the rejuvenation of community centres as announced in the National Development Plan will be available to each local authority; the total sum of the scheme’s allocation; when applications for the scheme will open; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraUnder the National Development Plan, the Department of Rural and Community Development will see an increase in its overall funding. Some of this increase will be used to establish a new funding scheme for community centres.
This is consistent with the Programme for Government commitment to establishing a small capital grants scheme for the maintenance, improvement and upkeep of community centres.
The details of this capital scheme are currently being developed within my Department. It is anticipated that the new scheme will be launched in early 2022 and further details will be announced in due course.
