676. Deputy Richard Bruton asked the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science if a gardener working in a university is entitled to be paid the travel time allowance for craft workers from his Department. [51209/21]
Amharc ar fhreagraGardeners and craft workers are employees of Higher Education Institutions. Employees have a number of industrial relation mechanisms available to them to address queries on employment matters, with either their employer or their union representatives. An issue has been brought to my Department's attention in relation to one particular university and I understand local mechanisms are being utilised. If this does not work, the Workplace Relations Commission has a role in bringing the relevant parties together to seek resolutions on industrial relations matters and parties are encouraged to use available mechanisms to bring matters to resolution and to promote the improvement of industrial relations across our higher education institutions.
