Ceist:

172. Deputy Richard Boyd Barrett asked the Minister for Transport if the Dublin Bus tender for the 10% of Dublin routes which were eventually awarded to a company (details supplied) was lower than the winning tender; the reason a tender which would have represented a saving for the State’s finances was rejected by the NTA; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 171 and 172 together.

As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport.

Under the Dublin Transport Authority Act 2008 it is a statutory function of the National Transport Authority (NTA) to procure public transport services by means of Public Service Obligation (PSO) contracts.

Therefore, I have forwarded the Deputy's questions to the NTA for direct reply.  Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within ten working days.

A referred reply was forwarded to the Deputy under Standing Order 51
Question No. 172 answered with Question No. 171.
