184. Deputy David Stanton asked the Minister for Transport if his Department has issued guidelines with respect to the merging of traffic from slip-roads onto motorways or dual carriageways; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15669/22]
Amharc ar fhreagraAs Minister for Transport I have responsibility for overall policy and exchequer funding in relation to the National Roads Programme. Under the Roads Acts 1993-2015 and in line with the National Development Plan (NDP), the operation and management of individual national roads is a matter for Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), in conjunction with the local authorities concerned. This is also subject to the Public Spending Code and the necessary statutory approvals. In this context, TII is best placed to advise you.

I would also like to advise the Deputy that the Road Safety Authority, which is tasked with promoting the safe use of our roads, has run a number of campaigns over the years to educate drivers on correct motorway behaviour, and section 11 of the Rules of the Road (last updated in 2020) provides comprehensive guidelines on protocols for both entering and leaving a motorway.
