Ceist:

127. Deputy David Stanton asked the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications further to Parliamentary Question No. 327 of 26 April 2022, if the Government Policy Statement on importing fracked gas also precludes LNG imports from non-fracked sources; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Policy Statement on the Importation of Fracked Gas was approved by Government and published in May 2021. The policy statement provides that, pending the outcome of a review of the security of energy supply of Ireland’s electricity and natural gas systems, which is currently being carried out by my Department, it would not be appropriate for the development of any LNG terminals in Ireland to be permitted or proceeded with. In this regard, this policy statement does not differentiate between fracked or non-fracked LNG sources. It is planned to complete the review in the coming months, following which the results will be submitted to Government.
