Ceisteanna (87)

Gerald Nash

Ceist:

87. Deputy Ged Nash asked the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications the estimated amount that would be raised by introducing a levy of €2.50 per tonne on aggregates extracted from the ground such as rock, sand, gravel and so on used in the construction industry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, I have no role or function in relation to the matters raised in the Question.  Responsibility for the regulation of aggregate operations falls under the remit of the relevant Local Authorities and therefore arises as a matter for the Department of Housing Local Government and Heritage.
