The territorial integrity of States is a fundamental principle of the United Nations Charter, Ireland and our EU partners are clear that respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of other States is non-negotiable. Ireland fully supports Denmark’s approach, which has been to seek to deal with this issue directly and discreetly with the US in a measured way through diplomatic channels.

Denmark and the US have been close allies and friends for many decades. We trust that they will be able to resolve this issue and to continue their close security cooperation on Greenland that has existed as far back as World War II. The future of Greenland is a matter to be determined by the Greenlandic people in line with well-established democratic and international law principles.
