Ceisteanna (1674)

Paul Murphy

Ceist:

1674. Deputy Paul Murphy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if he is aware of a non-coursing greyhound (details supplied) who is registered as a rehomed pet in Limerick on the Irish Stud Book and the Greyhound Racing Ireland website but is reportedly advertised as being located and available for stud in the Hebei Province, People's Republic of China, following his last race at Galway greyhound track on 8 February 2025; if he has confidence in the racing industry's reported greyhound homing figures; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am not aware of the allegations referred to by the Deputy.

Rásaíocht Con Éireann (RCÉ) is a commercial state body, established under the Greyhound Industry Act, 1958 chiefly to control greyhound racing and to improve and develop the greyhound industry. RCÉ is a body corporate and a separate legal entity to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

The question raised by the Deputy is an operational matter for RCÉ and, therefore, I have asked RCÉ to examine the matter.
