Under the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024, the Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of Garda business, including the recruitment and training of Garda Personnel. As Minister I have no role in these functions.

There are many circumstances under which a Garda trainee may not complete training with their initial intake including, but not limited to, reversion to another intake due to injury/medical issues, maternity leave or academic suspension. The Deputy will also be aware that like in any other career, an individual may choose to leave the training program if they decide it is not right for them.

Due to the very low volume of Garda trainees who do not complete training from each intake, the publication and categorisation of such data could be used to identify individuals. For data protection reasons, the requested information is therefore unavailable.
