298. Deputy Shay Brennan asked the Minister for Transport the progress under the climate action plan on delivering EV charging in apartment developments; whether policy provides for access to domestic tariffs for residents using shared chargers in private apartment car parks; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Government is fully committed to supporting the transition to zero-emission transport and the target to have 30% of private car fleet switched to electric by 2030.

Having an effective and reliable charging network is an essential part of enabling drivers to make the switch to electric vehicles.

The Apartment Charger Grant, funded by Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland (ZEVI) and operated by Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), assists residents and owners of apartments and other multi-unit developments install a home charger for their EV.

The grant is designed for bulk installation of chargers at a single location, and supports cabling, infrastructure, labour, and construction costs. Owners' management companies, housing bodies, local authorities, commercial and private landlords can apply. To date, 104 grant offers have been issued.

Price setting by electricity suppliers and charge point operators is a commercial and operational matter for the companies concerned. Each such company has its own approach to pricing decisions in accordance with factors such as their overall company strategic direction and developments in their cost base.
