The Committee on Budgetary Oversight has published its Report on Gender Budgeting.
The report puts forward some concrete and practical recommendations that may allow the Committee to develop its capacity to monitor and oversee the introduction of new budgeting processes, and also to ensure the Government continues to build on its equality budgeting initiative.
In preparing the report, the Committee held hearings on gender budgeting, the practice of using taxation and spending policy to promote professional opportunities and financial equality for women. The Committee heard from organisations such as the National Women’s Council of Ireland and the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission as well as the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform and the Parliamentary Budget Office.
