The Oireachtas Library & Research Service is displaying a copy of The Shamrock magazine from February 1919 in Leinster House to mark Eamon de Valera’s escape from Lincoln jail.
De Valera had been arrested in so-called “German Plot” of May 1918. The Dublin Castle administration accused Sinn Féin of engaging in "treasonable communication with Germany" and the party’s leaders were subsequently rounded up and interned in English prisons.
