The Houses of the Oireachtas Service has launched its Irish Sign Language (ISL) Strategy 2019 – 2021.

The strategy document was produced by the Working Group on Irish Sign Language. The working group engaged with stakeholders from organisations such as the Irish Deaf Society and meetings with a deaf member of the Oireachtas staff. Input was also sought from the Scottish Parliament, as well as from other Government Departments and offices.

The recognition of ISL and provision of interpretation by public bodies is provided for in the Irish Sign Language Act 2017.
