Secondary students from around the country will give TED-style talks in Dublin Castle on Friday, 8 March as part of the Houses of the Oireachtas programme commemorating the centenary of the First Dáil.
The 15 students were selected to be part of the Oireachtas TED-Ed club in a nationwide competition. As members of the club, they have each developed an idea for a TED-style presentation. They received training and support via video conference and visited Leinster House for public speaking coaching.
Their chosen topics include the power of democracy, the impact of social media and mobile phones, challenges in mental health services, coping with stress, sexual identity, and the relevance of education in the real world.
The event, originally scheduled to take place in the Round Room of the Mansion House on 22 January, was cancelled after smoke was detected in the building.
