The Pride flag was raised at Leinster House today to mark the LGBTQ Pride Festival.

Earlier in the week, the new Houses of the Oireachtas LGBT+ group held its first meeting, an informal coffee morning hosted by the Ceann Comhairle, Seán Ó Fearghaíl TD.

“The purpose of this morning’s meeting was to promote a discussion among members and staff of the Houses of the Oireachtas as to how the LGBT+ group within Leinster House can be managed and brought forward over the coming weeks”, said Deputy Ó Fearghaíl.

The raising of the Rainbow flag coincides with another milestone in the progression of human rights in Ireland. Exactly 25 years ago today, Seanad Éireann passed Second Stage of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Bill 1993, which decriminalised homosexuality.
