The Committee on Rural and Community Development has published a report on regional and rural transport policy. The report was launched yesterday during the Committee’s two-day visit to Leitrim.

The Committee held nine hearings with stakeholders on the issue of rural connectivity from 2016 until 2019. The report highlights the uneven distribution of public transport services in rural areas and a lack of joined-up thinking about transport service provision and connectivity in the regions. It makes 14 recommendations to improve transport for people living outside urban areas.

The Committee is preparing a separate report on rail transport in rural areas, and it will be published later this year.
