The flag of the United Nations will be flown at Leinster House alongside the Irish flag during Ireland's membership of the UN Security Council in 2021 and 2022.
The decision was announced today in this video message from the Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann, Deputy Seán Ó Fearghaíl and the Cathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann, Senator Mark Daly.
Ireland was elected to the UN Security Council in June 2020. Ireland campaigned on the themes of partnership, empathy and independence as the key attributes that our country brings to its engagement with the UN. Ireland joined the UN in December 1955 and has been on the Security Council three times before.
