The Houses of the Oireachtas hosted the 60th Plenary of the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly (BIPA) yesterday. Oireachtas Members attended in the Dáil Chamber while members of the other parliamentary assemblies attended remotely.
The theme of the event was 2021: Challenges and Changes.
In his opening address the Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, spoke of the need to deepen co-operation between the UK and Ireland on climate and biodiversity initiatives, sustainable economic recovery from the pandemic and international issues.
Established in 1990, BIPA aims to promote co-operation between political representatives in Britain and Ireland. BIPA’s membership includes representatives from the UK Parliament, the Houses of the Oireachtas, the Scottish Parliament, the Northern Ireland Assembly, the Welsh Assembly, the High Court of Tynwald (Isle of Man) and the States of Guernsey and Jersey.
