Health Committee to discuss State Dental Schemes with Irish Dental Association

The Committee on Health and Children will discuss State Dental Schemes tomorrow, Thursday, 28th March, 2013 when it meets with Fintan Hourihan, Chief Executive Officer, Irish Dental Association; Clare Dowling, Irish Dental Association Employment and Communications Officer; Andrew Bolas, President, Irish Dental Association and HSE Deputy Principal Dental Surgeon, Sligo; and Dr Peter Gannon, Chair, General Practitioners Committee.

Committee Chairman, Jerry Buttimer TD said: “As a committee we are aware the Irish Dental Association has expressed concern over cuts in funding for State dental services and what it says is the deterioration in the country’s dental health and standards of dental hygiene.
Tomorrow, we will meet with representatives from the Irish Dental Association when they will have an opportunity to elaborate on their concerns and outline their proposed solutions to the problem.”

Before the Committee meets with the Irish Dental Association, it will carry out scrutiny of EU legislative proposals: COM(2012)541 on in vitro diagnostic medical devices and COM(2012)542. on medical devices, and amending Directive 2001/83/EC, Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 and Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009

The meeting takes place tomorrow, Thursday, 28th March, 2013 at 9.30 am in Committee Room 2, LH 2000.
