Joint Committee on Health to meet to discuss the details of the proposed new National Maternity Hospital

In the first session at 4:30pm, the Committee will hear from Dr Peter Boylan and legal representatives and in the second session from 7:30pm they will hear from Professor Shane Higgins. 

The new National Maternity Hospital will be located at the St. Vincent’s Hospital campus, and concerns have been raised in relation to the ownership of the site and any potential religious influence.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Sean Crowe TD said: “The Committee met with the Minister yesterday to discuss the key issues around governance, ownership and religious ethos. The Committee looks forward to building upon this discussion by engaging further with clinicians and legal experts in this regard.”

The Joint Committee on Health has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
