Joint Committee on Public Petitions to consider petition to ban herbicides in public areas

11 Beal 2022, 16:30

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 12 May, to consider a petition seeking to ban herbicides in public areas.

The meeting at 2.30pm in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House will hear from the petitioner, James Walsh, regarding Public Petition Number P00008/22. The Committee will also consider a number of other petitions.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Martin Browne said: “Mr Walsh and his co-signatories want the use of herbicides banned from all public areas and are seeking a non-toxic method of maintaining grass and plant growth similar to those in use in other countries. The Committee looks forward to discussing this petition with him.

“We will also consider a number of other petitions, including a call to raise the Upper Age Limit in the Defence Forces, for a 100 per cent redress or compensation scheme for people with houses affected by defective concrete block and aggregate due to the presence of mica and/or pyrite, and to support access to employment for Non-EEA PhD students' spouses in Ireland.”

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions is a standing Committee of the Houses of the Oireachtas and has 11 Members, seven from the Dáil and four from the Seanad.

The meeting in the Committee Room 4 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
