27 Meith 2022, 15:55

The Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 28 June, to discuss Inflationary costs in the Construction Industry.

The meeting at 3pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will hear from Assistant Professor Orla Hegarty of University College Dublin and representatives from the Irish Council for Social Housing (ICSH).

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Steven Matthews said: “Rising construction costs due to inflation pose a serious challenge to our ability to deliver urgently-needed new homes, critical infrastructure and the retrofit programme to improve the efficiency of existing homes. The Committee looks forward to meeting with Professor Hegarty and the Irish Council for Social Housing and hearing what is driving these inflationary pressures, the areas affected, and the impact on tender prices, budgets and delivery times. We also hope to hear how they believe these rising costs can controlled and managed so has to minimise the impact on delivery of new homes in particular.”

The Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
