First Sitting of 24th Seanad Éireann Tomorrow

The 24th Seanad Éireann will hold its first meeting tomorrow, (25th) at 2:30 pm.

Arrangements for this first sitting and photo opportunities are as follows:

First Sitting:
Prelude: The Clerk of the Seanad reads the Proclamation of the President of Ireland convening Seanad Éireann.

Announcement of Members: Clerk of the Seanad reads out the names of Members nominated and of the Members elected.

Election of Cathaoirleach: The Senator with the longest continuous period of service temporarily takes the chair. (In this case it is Senator David Norris).

The temporary chair will call for nominations for the position of Cathaoirleach. Should there be more than two persons nominated a vote will take place. The newly elected Cathaoirleach takes the Chair and may address the House. The leader of the Seanad sets a date for the election of the leas-Chathaoirleach.

Photo Opp:
Members of the 24th Seanad will be available for a group photograph at 2:15 pm on the plinth of Leinster House.
The newly elected Cathaoirleach of the Seanad will be available for a photograph in the Cathaoirleach’s Office, Leinster House at 4:30 pm approx.
