Dominic Hannigan, TD elected Chairman of the Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement

30 Meith 2011, 13:08

Dominic Hannigan, TD has been elected Chairman of the Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement.

Speaking after his election, Deputy Hannigan said: “I would like to thank my colleagues for electing me chairman of the Committee on Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement. It is an honour to chair this very unique committee which includes Members from Leinster House and MPs from Northern Ireland. The Committee offers an opportunity to foster better links and dialogue between parliamentarians from both sides of the border. I expect that the Committee will play an important role in informing debate on key areas of mutual interest such as North/South economic co-operation, particularly in areas of tourism, transport and communications infrastructure and agriculture; reconciliation and combating sectarianism; cross-border co-operation in policing; and Ireland/UK relations.”

Joe O’Reilly, TD was elected Vice-Chairman of the Committee.
