The Minister for Health, Dr James Reilly TD and the Chief Executive of the HSE, Cathal Magee have agreed to a request from the Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children to appear at an upcoming meeting of the Committee.
Committee members asked the Minister and the head of the HSE to come to a meeting to enable the Committee to question the two individuals with principle responsibility for delivering the country’s health and social care services.
Minister Reilly and Mr Magee are scheduled to appear before the Committee on 21st July.
The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Frances Fitzgerald TD has also agreed to attend a meeting of the Committee to outline the policy priorities of this new portfolio. She is due to attend on 6th July
Committee Chairman, Denis Naughton TD said;
“The Committee felt that it was vital that the Minister and the CEO of the HSE come to the Committee and answer members’ questions as it has been some time since either have faced Oireachtas Committee scrutiny, so we are pleased that they have assented to our request.
There are a number of pressing issues in the health sector at the moment and the Committee is anxious to address them at the earliest possible juncture. It will also provide an opportunity for the Committee to establish the immediate priorities of Minister Reilly and the HSE which will help to inform the Committee’s work programme.\"
